Fairys and Waterfalls oct 13 2014

A trip into Snowdonia today,   I think a shoot at Fairy Glen first while its bright and sunny , thick cloud forecast for later this afternoon.

I love this location , the colour of the wet moss on the gorge wall is amazing , so fresh and vibrant!
clambering down onto the rocks , i set up tripod and experiment with loads of different shutter speeds which gives smooth silky water and trails.

                                            25 seconds f14  iso 100 using 17-40L lens.

                                                                      6 seconds f16

                                                                       4 seconds f14

Moving further back and using a long lens to shoot into the gorge

                                                          13 second f11  using 100-400 L

                                                             122 seconds f9  No sun!

Time to go now , i am going to drive up the Ogwen valley to shoot the waterfalls , its gone quite dull now  , but that will be ok for waterfall shots.

Parking at the Ogwen cottages , i cross the bridge and over the Pen-yr-ole -wen side of the river to shot across with Tryfan in the background.

                                                                        5 seconds f14

                                                                 3.2 seconds  f14

Walking further up to the Llyn Ogwen weir ,  a good subject for black/white conversion.

                                                                       5 seconds f18

And a wide view  0.8 second

                                                                     1/25 th second.

a quick shot of the waterfall by the Idwal bridge, i have photographed it hundreds of times

                                                                        0.4 second  f11

the end of a good day out , almost time for autumn colours now, may go to Aberglaslyn gorge next week to see how the colours are.

Fairy Glen , snowdonia 28 th Nov

My last trip before Christmas,  another shoot at fairy glen near Betwsy-coed.   It is so difficult to get good light as its a deep gorge and usually only get half hour of nice light early morning!   there was quite a lot of water coming down through the gorge which always makes shooting water trails more difficult!

Here is the first shot i managed, managed a decent water trail shooting at f18  13 seconds exposure, using cokin poloriser and a 2 stop full nd filter.

i then shot down the gorge using 70-300 is,  6 secs at f7.3 @300mm.  love the mistiness of the water!

and another  6 secs at f18  @220 mm

Changing to another position on the rocks, shooting with 100mm L macro

15 secs at f5.3

Then i tried another few water trails shots with 17-40L

this one 10 seconds at f18  @23mm

6 seconds at f18 @ 23 mm

Turning around to shoot downstream across the waterfall

And a four frame focus stack to increase depth of field,  15 seconds at f22 @40mm

all shot with canon 5d2, 100mmLmacro,70-300 is & 17-40 L

Snowdonia, Fairy glen and Nant francon valley waterfalls 10/12th november 2011

My next trips were to Snowdonia national park in north wales,  the first location was Fairy glen , near Betws-y-coed .  it is a deep gorge with the river running through and very large boulders all around, access is difficult having to climb down very slippery steps!
As soon as i got down to the gorge  i found the light was looking really nice for a change,  i knew i only had a very short time to get the shots i wanted before the light went!!!!!!!!!!  and this shot has all the atmosphere  i wanted to capture!

Shot with 100mm L macro !

The river widens out below this gorge and long exposures create trails on the waters surface!

These two frames were all i got before the light went, but on the walk back to the car i found these oaks beautifully lit up !

Shot with 70-300 is

The Nant francon valley waterfalls where next,  i have only visited once in summer so hoped they would look good with a bit of autumn colour!,  and i was not disappointed!   lol

here is one of the first shots, a wide view of the waterfall!

17-40mm L

And a longer shot!  taken with 100mm Macro lens!

I then started to walk down the valley towards the direction of the Devils kitchen,  a really nice walk in the ever increasing sunshine!

I came to a lovely small waterfall with good colours

Continuing down the track just to shoot a few shots down the valley!

At the end of this path it opens out into the valley floor with Devils kitchen in the distance!

A last view before walking back to the car!

 Another great trip!

All shots taken with canon 5d2, 17-40L , 100mm L macro.
