Hardley Drainage Mill and Great Yarmouth beach 14th sept Norfolk holiday

Today we are going to see Hardley mill, one of the few wind pumps with working gears , its about 30-40 mins drive i think, then a mile or so walk along the river Yare,and there is a boat race along the river today so might get to see a few.
Arriving at Yardley staith we are walking along the river towards the mill, the path has recently seen allot of work and is sticky thick mud, sticking to shoes in big lumps which is making walking difficult!

there is a line of sails visible looking across the fens , quite weird actually seeing sails moving across fields  lol getting up close to the river the Mill and an old sail :)

               arriving at the mill just in time for a bit of blue sky, but don't think it will last long!

We have parked on the beach car park at Great Yarmouth, the sky is looking fabulous now but is quite windy. walking across the dunes to the left side of the pier where dogs are allowed to go on :)

                              The dogs are trying to hide from us!     Utter Fail    i can see you :)

                  think Mollster is laughing at us :)          and Chester still thinks we cant see him!

 a last view of the beach as we make our way back to the car while throwing the ball for the dogs , i am amazed we managed to keep them out of the water today!

It looks like might have a chance of a sunset tonight , maybe worth going to How Hill again this evening on the of chance .................

How Hill and California beach Norfolk Holiday 13 th sept 2013

Having discovered that just a mile away from our camp site there are a couple of windpumps at How Hill , we are going to have a look, the weather is not looking too good for the early part of  today, cloudy with flat light so not good for photographs :(
Arriving at a small car park near to this lovely house

a small track leads across a field in front of the gardens leading down to the river , where we immediately see the first windpump :)

                                 I have just tried an infrared phone pic, quite like it :)

 Walking down the river i can see a small "skeleton" mill , here is a phone pic

you can see the rill that channels water from the pumps paddles  from the field in to the river in this image.

                           Love the thatched boat house , but Molly is not interested in that  haha

We are now going to head down to Scratby to walk California beach, it is spitting with rain but quite warm and it is looking like sun might break through later :)

 the Terrible twosome are having fun, the sand has formed a channel so there is deep water either side of a shallow sand bar.

                                        watch out Mol, you going to get cut off  Bol.

           Time to run the dogs dry on the sand , well we will try to keep them out of the water !

only two days left in Norfolk left now ,  tomorrow is looking dry in the afternoon anyhow. 

Thurne Sunset Norfolk Holiday 12 th sept 2013

After a quick stop over at the caravan we have driven back down to Thurne to hopefully see the sunset , but upon reaching the Staith the cloud has built up and its not looking good tonight :(

But!  the clouds are producing crepuscular rays :)

 

A Panorama , its quite dark now, very little colour has developed :(

 

 Getting a good show of Crepuscular Rays tonight though, the developed cloud is very dark and breaking nicely :)  these three images are my favourites tonight , got lucky with the boat sailing past

                         One last image , the only colour that showed through the cloud cover.

                                             Tomorrow is going to be another beach day :)

Thurne Staith Windpumps 12th sept 2013 Norfolk Holiday

After yesterdays beach day in the wind, a much calmer sunnier day is promised, we are going to see the windpumps at Thurne .its only a couple miles away but on the way we stop to shoot this image :)

Arriving at the small village of Thurne , its clouded over a bit but plenty of blue sky all around.  we park in the pub car park and walk down the right hand side of the staith towards the white painted Thurne Dyke mill.

The darkening clouds are helping with the images , but i think black & white might look better, so shoot a few to see how they look.

                   I prefer this one over the colour , and having both windmills in the frame also. Just!

We have walked far enough, the suns position making images hard, so shooting from the opposite direction will be much better. on the way back the blue sky has come back, so a nice image with an interesting sky :)

 We have walked back to the Staith and around the boats to walk down the river towards the other Windmill , but first we go for a drink in the pub :)

       There is a good path to walk all right along the river towards another Staith further up river.

We have come to the end of the path where another Staith/Mooring ends at the river, we will turn back now and go back to the car.

back to the small village and we have ice creme at the small corner shop , and yes both dogs finished off the tubs :)

On our way back we decide to stop of next to the bridge near Potter Heigham  where we are now walking along the river Thurne again in glorious sunshine :)        we have just passed this wonderfull old mill  when........................

A largish boat, the main one in this image turned around in front of us,slowly!  the second boat caught up with it, steered hard left to avoid hitting it and the main boom swung out and hit a moored boat right next to us, a lady inside the boat ran up onto the deck and shouted to her husband " we just got hit!!!!!!!! "    he was at the front of the boat on the bank and just shrugged his shoulders and muttered something :)   so funny :D

                                     Look at this stunning house , so much character :)
