Dorset Holiday Durdle Door

We have left West Bay and are heading to Durdle Door campsite for 3 days.


Parked up eventually after an eventful drive , the Terrible Twosome don't seem bothered at all though.

                                       This is what happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Totally Destroyed!

Anyhow we are walking down to the Door for a walk to clear our heads, its still very cloudy but tonight's forecast is looking good .

I have rushed down to the Door as the clouds are looking very promising for a good sunset,  there are loads of photographers down here .    Climbing up on the mound overlooking both bays I shoot this first image just as the sun is about to sink below the horizon.

I have been keeping an eye on the clouds behind me over Man-O-War bay , and just look at it now .   Fabulous .     f14     70 seconds

Back  to Durdle Door beach , the colour didn't develop as the cloud was too thick but its looking great now,  after all the other photographers have left  !!!!!

Walking around the headland from Kimmeridge bay,   its very windy but warm and sunny.  the coastline is amazing along here.

Its early evening and i have decided to climb up the headland to look down on Durdle door for sunset.  its a steep climb up towards Bat head onto the top of Swyre Head.     the golden light is really nice , but it is very windy up here and I'm struggling to get sharp images even on the tripod!!

The following morning , our last day we have driven to Swanage ,  and a walk onto the pier and a look at the old pier structure which i want to do a long exposure image.     its drizzling and quite dull overcast but i managed this 30 second exposure with Lee Big stopper nd filter.

 

After lunch we have walked around to Peveril Point

                   This is my favourite composition  , 47 seconds with big stopper 10 stop nd filter.

 The final evening at Durdle Door ,  and what a sunset !     as the sun just about on horizon it lit up the entire beach with warm orange light ,   never seen such a strong light like this before . even with nd grad filters  i couldn't prevent the lens flare but quite like the effect .

 and then i have walked over to Man-o-war Bay after the sun has gone down and managed this image , it was quite dark by this time but still showed some colour.

Durdle Door September 2016 pt 1

Catching up on a few images from last year , we stayed at the Durdle Door caravan site.

                                  Getting dark now , so quite long exposures  , 2 minutes

                                     Close up of the rocks , it was quite dark at this point.

                                         The following day we went to Old Harrys Rocks

                    A long exposure of 30 seconds with Lee Big stopper  to give cloud movement.  
 

Durleston Country park and i only managed to find one wasp spider , it was quite breezy so most images were slightly soft ,   note to self -  use 5d2 next time instead of 5dsr!

Old Harrys Rocks, Kimmeridge Bay and Man-o-War bay sept 18th 2014

Today we are going to visit "Old Harrys Rocks"   which are on the point at Studland and Ballard Down.   it is HOT today cant believe its September!
A good walk from the car park along the cliff top and we eventually arrive at Old Harry Rocks , the Chalk pillars are called the "Pinnacles"

             It is a stunning location, would love to shoot a sunrise here, Never going to happen  lol

Time to go back now , a nice walk across Ballard down and back to the car park , next to a pub for lunch and a drink :)                



               Time to head to Kimmeridge Bay now , a very well known fossil hunting area.

Going down onto the Stony beach , the tide is right up and I am going to shoot a few long exposures , but first a view down the bay from the bottom of the steps near the car park.

               I am walking  up to the tower on the point opposite , but the views are a bit hazy :(

Back to the caravan now , and an early evening walk down to the the Door.   , as we walk along the path above "Man-o-war" bay, the low evening  sun lights up the grasses and the bay momentarily.  I am lucky to be on the spot to get this image :)

 

 

 

 A few minutes later we are looking down across the bay and the light has changed completely , still a beautiful sea colour and increasing cloud is adding to the image :)

Clouds are getting darker, think this is not going to be a good sunset tonight , but the last 10 minutes of great light make up for lack of colour in the sky.

                        The sun sets in the distance over Weymouth behind thickening cloud .

    Colours all but gone now, what a shame  , now to make our way back up the steep path to the top.

 

 

Late in the evening I have come outside down out of the park to try some star images , this is a stack of 18 frames, think I need to shoot a lot more frames to get startrails.
