Rhiwargor Waterfall walk Oct 15 th 2020

Today I am going to visit the Rhiwargor waterfalls which are located at the North end of Lake Vyrnwy in Mid Wales.   It is about a 2 hour drive so I set off early at 7am , well early for me that is   haha.
Arriving at Vyrnwy at about 9 am I have stopped to get a couple of images along the right hand road that goes around the lake.  As it turns out the left hand road is closed due to a landslide or fallen trees .

                                                           9 frame panorama p4p drone

I need to move on down towards the waterfall carpark now as the forecast is actually for thick cloud, which is hard to believe looking at this clear blue sky!

There is a large car park at the top end of the lake , and a fairly easy 30 minutes walk up the river.

There are the falls in the distance. I have decided to fly from here first while the sun is still on the trees as there is already cloud approaching from behind.

                                                                       9 frame panorama

Clouds are already casting shadows over the trees and falls .

Now to cross over the bridge to get to the base of the falls.

A nice table to take off from .

Having moved closer to the falls I can now fly closer to the falls more safely keeping well away from the tree branches to shoot these Vertorama images.  Both 6 frames merged in Lightroom.

Now its time to leave, having used all three drone batteries but as I get further away there is a really nice view over the trees. Out with the 5dsr and long 100-400mm lens.   these are both multi frame merged images .

                                                                        4 frames merged

                                                                     7 frames merged.

I guess the weather forecast was wrong, its been a beautiful sunny day!
A nice walk back now .

This was the last trip out before the November Lockdown 2.  Dam virus

Cwm Prysor Viaduct apr 20 th

It is Easter weekend, and we have driven the van down to Dolgellau for the 4 day holiday.   I have decided to get up early tomorrow and drive up to Cwm Prysor viaduct which is about 20 minutes drive from the campsite.

Walking towards the viaduct , the view down the valley I have just driven up,  its quite warm and going to be a sunny day.  I passed an interesting bridge over a river on the way , with low mist it looked like a good location and I wish I had stopped as I passed, but will have a look on the way back later.

The path is the old railway track, now disused as this viaduct which was opened in 1882 closed in 1961.

I have reach the location, it is 105 ft high at its centre and 490 ft in length.

Time to get the drone up in the air, this is a perfect subject to photograph from the air .

This is a 9 frame panorama showing the entire area , you can see where the railway continued along on the left side.

                                                                A 5 frame vertorama

Phone shot of the bridge arches.

Vertoramas really show the view, with the curved viaduct and the rail line snaking away down the valley.

9 frame panorama, which has emphasized the curvature of the bridge slightly.

Topdown over the Viaduct, love the shadows from the pillars.

That's the last image , now to go back for breakfast , but I will stop off at the location I passed on the way this morning.
Having found it , the river is very low with hardly any flow. taking a few quick images it clearly shows how low the water is .

Time to head back to the van now for pancakes :)

Drone Meet at Crogen Estate and Morfa Nefyn Mar 24/25

In Late March was a planned Drone meet up in Bala with the facebook group Drone flyers GB & Beyond    We had special permission to fly at a Private estate Crogen Estate .  So as we had a long weekend the van was loaded and off we went.  The meeting location is Steves brynmelynfarmcottages  , If anyone wants a great place to stay in North/Mid Wales this is a fabulous location.  about 30 people turned up for this meet, the wind unfortunately was a bit strong as when we all went up to the first location high up in the hills it was blowing a gale, and I think only 6 or 7 of us flew.

The wind was funnelling through this valley and the drone was hardly moving at full speed !
                                                               6 frame Vertorama.

We then moved on to Crogen Hall estate,  what a fabulous place, and the wind was fairly good down here so everyone had a great time.  here are just a few of my images .

                                                                    9 frame panorama.

                                                                5 frame Vertoramas.

                                                    Tree Shadows, 9 frame panorama.

                                                               6 frame Vertorama

The lawn is still flooded after all the recent rain.

                                                                                Topdown

While the drone meet continues at Bala sailing club and then Lake Vyrnwy we are leaving Bala and heading down to the Llyn Peninsula where we are meeting up with friends who run the Twnti pub
After a nice easy drive down past Pwllheli to the small village of Rhyd-y-claddy and the pub car park where we will stay overnight.

Monday morning and we have blue sky, a beautiful warm sunny day is forecast, after a cloudy period mid morning.

Mike and Cat are free today so they suggested going down to the local beach to run the dogs and a quick fly before heading over to Morfa Nefyn for a good walk and fly around the coastline.

Flying out from the beach to look back at the headland.

Meanwhile on the beach ………….      collies and a Spanner concentrate on the ball !

Now we have driven across the peninsula to Morfa , the headland has a lifeboat station and looks great for a good photo shoot.  parking in the NT car park and walking through the golf club to the end of the small headland.
Flying straight out taking a 9 frame panorama .
You can see the brown stain from rain water leaching from the peninsula.

8 frames shot merged shot topdown

A low altitude 3 frame vertorama 30 ft

                                                        Topdown over the rocky headland.

Topdown over a small rock ,  I used a nd16 to slow the shutter speed down a bit to show more water movement.  I changed the water colour in photoshop to make it more vibrant.

Time to walk back now along the shore now that the tide is out, its been a great day, must come back here very soon.
